Typically when you don’t see real recent reports, not much has changed. Lately that has definitely been the case. The dam has been pumping a lot of water the last 12 days. Also the recording at the dam has been down for the past 2 days. So it was to my great surprise this morning when I took a trip down that the water was completely off. They did turn on 1 generator on around noon, then shutting it off, then turned it back on, and increasing it to at least 2 by mid-afternoon.
The fishing this morning was awesome. We used some of the tried and true patterns….scuds, tungsten beaded midge, san juans… and then put on a cream midge, and a ginger quill, a new pattern that worked great. Still fishing light fluorcarbon tippet, really a must.

Unfortunately water has been running everyday, all day. 2-4 generators. Table Rock Lake is approx. 3 ft over pool. From all the rain and run off we have received. Good news is that the fish are still really biting. I had out 3 trips yesterday, and we landed lots of fish. We missed several more also.
We were using micro jigs, egg patterns, scuds, and WD-40’s. On one trip we never had to even change flies, the fish kept hitting the same thing. Before all the high water (just this past Sunday and Monday) we were catching a lot of fish on a cream midge, a parachute adams, size 20 & 22, and Cracklebacks were hot also, especially the disco red.

We still are out on Lake Taneycomo everyday lately with clients. Water had been running only 2 hours or so until the last 2 days. Yesterday they ran 2 all day and today they started with 2 and brought all 4 online this afternoon. Fishing has been really good.

Its time to go back to nymph fishing again with all the water running. A peach egg with a scud as a dropper has been doing the best. With only one generator running we have been throwing a gray streamer pattern and doing very well on it. With the water off cracklebacks were working great, along with beaded midges and the Adam’s Bug.

This Saturday and Sunday is free fishing weekend. Hope to see you on the water!
